The Blue Hawks added another Dickinson High member to its family with the signing of senior guard Jaiden Wright.
Wright is one of the leaders on the Midgets basketball team and has been playing solidly throughout the season. In his most recent back-to-back games on Friday, Jan. 3, and Saturday, Jan. 4, Wright totaled a combined 40 points, five rebounds and four steals to help the team finish with a 1-1 split.
“Honestly, there was a bunch of factors (for choosing DSU),” Wright said. “It being my home town, having a lot of support from my friends and family, and coach Vaughan and their crew are an awesome bunch of guys, and it’s just where I wanted to go ever since the summer.”
Wright mentioned that he is looking forward to playing for the Blue Hawks, especially knowing that he will be able to see familiar faces within Scott Gymnasium.
“The support, the encouragement, the love from family, friends, just knowing that they’re going to be in the stands is going to be a great feeling for me,” he said.
As for meeting his new teammates, Wright is already taking charge.
“I’ve already met some of the guys that are some incoming redshirt freshmen and I know some of the older guys from just being around Dickinson,” he said. “I think that we’re going to do really well together, and I’m excited to get out there in the spring and in the summer and start gelling with them and seeing what we can do.”
Goal wise, Wright plans on getting better each day he is at Dickinson State and looking forward to seeing his potential in the upcoming years.
“I’m super excited to … get to know my teammates and learning from them,” he said. “I think that there’s a next level that my game can get to from the coaches and my teammates and everybody else that has been helping and supporting me.”
For now, while still at Dickinson High, Wright’s mission of becoming a Blue Hawk has been accomplished; now it’s time to just have fun on the basketball court with his high school teammates.
“I know a lot of people say when they commit it just feels there’s this weight that just has been lifted off their shoulders, and I kind of feel like I’m a new person,” he said. “I’m just excited for the rest of the season.”
Wright and the Midgets will return to the court with a road game against Williston on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. Their next home game will be on Tuesday, Jan. 14, against Bismarck St. Mary’s at 6:45 p.m.
