The Dickinson Roughriders fell behind early on Tuesday at the Class AA state tournament in Bismarck, and they were never able to recover, losing 11-0 by run rule.
Ace Kobe Krenz was on the mound hoping to advance the Roughriders to the winners bracket, but he didn’t have his best stuff and it cost Dickinson.
He hit five batters over only 2.2 innings and gave up seven runs all of which were earned.
The Patriots plated two runs in the first inning and two more in the second off a home run.
The onslaught continued to get worse for the Roughriders as Krenz hit another batter to score a run and then gave up a single to get run off the mound down 7-0 in only the third frame.
Carson Weiler entered and it didn’t go much better for him.
He got out of the third inning, but in the fourth he gave up two runs before being pulled. Two runners were on base when he exited and Nathaniel Jilek came in. He allowed the two runners score, and they were added to Weiler’s stats even though they were unearned due to a defensive error.
Dickinson had very few bright spots offensively as four Roughriders all recorded one hit in the loss. Jilek, Troy Berg, Isaac Daley and Jaren Hugelen all went 1-2 with singles.
Hugelen was the only Dickinson player to reach scoring position, and his single followed by Jilek’s single was in the Roughriders last stand in the top of the fifth.
Dickinson faces elimination on Wednesday afternoon when they take on Minot at Noon Mountain Time.
