Area Athletics — Jan. 8-10, 2021

A total of 29 athletic events were played on Friday and through the weekend within the southwestern region of North Dakota.

The stand-out performance on Friday was Dickinson Trinity’s girls basketball which celebrated a 23-point triumph over Fargo Oak Grove. On the collegiate level, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams returned to court on the road against Bellevue University. For the women’s team, it was their first time playing a game since Dec. 12. Both teams succumbed to stark competition.

On Saturday, the stand-out performance came from the Dickinson High girls hockey team for snapping its four game shutout losing streak with a 5-4 win over Jamestown (2-5-1). At the collegiate level, Dickinson State University’s senior Courtney Olson scored her 1,000th point in the Blue Hawks’ 87-48 loss to Dakota State — adding some sugar to an otherwise sour night. The shocking performance of the day came from the Mott-Regent boys basketball team with its 73-39 upset spread in their win over Center Stanton.
