CORNUCOPIA, Wis. - Access to the Apostle Islands mainland sea caves near Cornucopia reopened Saturday morning after rangers determined the Lake Superior ice remained stable during the recent winter storm.
Apostle Islands National Lakeshore officials advised that anyone planning a visit to the frozen caves this weekend be prepared for deep snow and very cold conditions. Snowshoes or cross-country skis are recommended until the path to the caves is packed down again.
Access was temporarily closed Thursday due to a winter storm.
