Fredrick Agbaje didn't just win the men's 100 meters Friday afternoon at the Biesiot Activities Center. The speedy sophomore from Nigeria raced his way into history.
Agbaje's triumphant time of 10.16 seconds at the Blue Hawk Open is a new Dickinson State track and field record.
"When I found out, I was really, really happy," Agbaje said. "I can't even comprehend how happy I am right now. That's huge for me."
Despite battling the dusty, windy conditions, the Dickinson State men's team bested the field with 291 points. Jamestown College was a distant second with 147 points.
The DSU women, led by javelin national qualifier Kim Schulz, took second-place with 143 points behind Jamestown (259).

Overall, it was a good day for head coach Pete Stanton's squad.
"We had a really nice day. We got accomplished what we wanted to get accomplished," Stanton said. "We started off with the men's 4-by-800, and they ran outstanding and set a national-qualifying mark. That was a great start."
The quartet of Dante Carter, Dustin Sandbak, Delano Lilly and Chris Gill clocked in at 7 minutes, 43.4 seconds to stamp their tickets to the NAIA National Championships that begin May 23 in Marion, Ind.
Agbaje also won the 200 meters in a time of 21.02. DSU's Breyan Miller, also a national qualifier, was second in the 100 and 200 at 10.32 and 21.48 seconds, respectively.
Agbaje and Miller are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the NAIA men's 100 rankings, respectively. Agbaje is No. 2 nationally in the 200 as well.
Though somewhat wind aided, Agbaje's time Friday would have automatically qualified him for last year's Summer Olympics.
"This race for me is about the community. I just had a good race and came out today for the Dickinson community," said Agbaje, who will compete in 100, 200 and 400 relay at nationals. "(I want) to be a national champion, and try and give my team points as much as I can."
Schulz took care of business in the women's javelin throw with a winning heave of 132 feet, 10 inches. Though Schulz didn't throw as well as she had hoped, she is feeling confident going into nationals.

"This is probably my second best throw this year," said Schulz, who is still nursing a sore right arm. "I think nationals will be the time for me to peak and just throw my best."
National qualifier and Dickinson native Nathan Magstadt won the 110-hurdles, clocking in at 14.42 seconds. He felt having the wind at his back on the home track was advantageous.
"It's definitely an advantage. You're just going faster," Magstadt said. "But you have to make sure to maintain control. If you get going too fast in the hurdles, then you can get out of control and fall."
Magstadt won the 400 (52.11), too. He will race in the 110 and 400 hurdles, and 400 relay at nationals. Teammate Andrew Knebel won the 400 hurdles at 56.7 seconds and placed first in the high jump, clearing 6-6.75.
Distance runners Sandbak and Eddie Meneses took first in the 800 and 5,000 runs, respectively, at 1:59.71 and 16:40.65.
Brady Sundheim, a national qualifier in the triple jump, leaped 48-6 to win the event.
DSU's women swept the short distance events. Lorna Shepherd, Taylor Miller and Marissa Stanton won in the 100 (12.26), 200 (25.96) and 400 (1:03.27), respectively.
Hailey Schaper placed first in the high jump at 5-3.

The women's 400 relay team of Marissa Stanton, Shepherd, Breezy Boldon and Mardee Clark finished first at 53.98 seconds.
"The ones that went to nationals, we're trying to fine tune everything, get ourselves ready. Hopefully, we'll be at our best," Pete Stanton said. "For those that didn't get to go to nationals, we wanted to perform as well as we absolutely could today. We competed hard and that's one thing this team has done all year long. I'm proud of them for that."
