Despite there being only 26 sporting events this past weekend, compared to 35 the weekend prior, there was still enough action that was seen throughout the southwest region of North Dakota.
On Friday, very few games were played. In boys varsity basketball, Bowman County traveled to Mott-Regent and pulled out a 64-48 win over the Wildfire. The Beach Buccaneers also hit the road to battle the Killdeer Cowboys and celebrated a 56-46 road win. The Richardton-Taylor Raiders hosted the Beulah Miners but were unable to come out with the victory resulting in a 70-23 loss. At the collegiate level, both Dickinson State University basketball teams traveled to Aberdeen to take on Presentation College. The women's team started the weekend off on a high note with the team pulling out a 68-53 win. The men's basketball team followed with a 75-60 win of its own.
On Saturday, a total of 20 events were played with a wide variety of different sporting events taking place. In boys varsity basketball, the Glen Ullin-Hebron Bearcats hosted Flasher High and after a tight battle pulled out a 66-58 victory. For Bearcats' senior Grant Gerving the senior guard recorded his 1,000th point in the victory and finished with 27 points. In girls varsity basketball, New England hosted New Salem and was able to pull out a narrow 45-40 home win. As for Trinity and Hettinger-Scranton, both teams celebrated blowout victories. The Titans defeated Stanley 50-27 and Hettinger-Scranton defeated Hazen 64-33. At the collegiate level, both Dickinson State basketball teams played against Mayville State on Saturday. The women's team was unable to extend its winning streak to four, losing 64-51 to the Comets. However, for the men's team, the Blue Hawks pulled out a close 80-77 win to earn its fourth straight victory.
In other sports on Saturday, the Dickinson High boys hockey team hosted Bottineau and fell 5-2 despite giving a strong winning effort. The Dickinson wrestling team had two duals on Saturday, and fell in both, losing to Bismarck Century 40-34 and Bismarck St. Mary's 42-30. The Dickinson State University wrestling team had a quad dual at home on Saturday and had a 2-2 split, winning the first 25-12, losing the second 31-12, winning the third 29-15 and losing the fourth 41-6.
