CASPER, Wyo. - Things got off to a rocky start in Wyoming for the Badlands Big Sticks as they faced off with the Casper Horseheads on their home turf. Solid offense and a late-game string of scores gave Badlands the 10-5 win on Wednesday, June 19, at Mike Lansing Field. The victory was the Big Sticks eighth straight.
The Horseheads shored up an early lead against Badlands, but in the top of the fifth, first baseman Garrett Dupuis held the line for a long and tense at-bat. Nine pitches into the at-bat, the dam broke with a 2-RBI single that rocketed the score up in Badlands' favor. Just like that, the game was tied at 3-3.
It would prove to be a tenacious tug-of-war from that point on, with the Horseheads (9-14) striking back at the bottom of the fifth to retake their lead. The stalemate continued into the eighth inning, where at last the Big Sticks (20-5) were able to remind all present why they have been undefeated for seven consecutive games. With one out and two on, left fielder Kaimana Souza Paaluhi used a sacrifice fly to send Jaret Humphrey home. Next, third baseman Bryson Ford cracked a thunderous triple that delivered center fielder Nathan Sanders home. ith a single by Mason Schwallenbach, Ford made his way home too.
