Slow first half costs Midgets loss against Patriots

BISMARCK — Despite shooting 77.8 percent from behind the three-point arc, the Dickinson boys basketball team fell 68-54 to Bismarck Century Thursday, Feb. 8 in Bismarck.

Dawson Bechtold led the Midgets with 19 points, sinking 3-of-4 3-pointers. Connor Hoenke scored 10 points and put away both his three-point shots.

While the Patriots only shot 46.2 percent from the three-point line, they sank 12 of their 26 attempts, helping them to victory.

The Patriots only committed eight fouls, giving the Midgets just six free-throw opportunities in which the Midgets made just three. Meanwhile, the Patriots went 10-for-12 from the foul line.

Dickinson High led by three in the early moments of the contest, but Bismarck Century outscored Dickinson 26-17 in the first half. The Midgets went on to net 37 points in the second half, but the Patriots drained 42 points en route to their 12th WDA win.
