Dickinson State downs top-seeded Saints
At the half, Presentation College (S.D.) led the Dickinson State men’s basketball team 37-36, but as the Blue Hawks outscored the Saints 44-41 in the second fame, they earned the 80-78 victory on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Scott Gym.
The Blue Hawks led by as much as 15 in the second half, but the Saints, who led the North Star conference with an 11-2 record ahead of the contest, battled back. Presentation tied the game at 63 with five minutes to go and were within a bucket or two the rest of the way.
Forward Devonta Brooks paced the Saints with 19 points, while Dickinson State junior guard Kenny Jackson led all players with 30 points.
His performance, powered by 5-of-8 shooting from three-point territory, earned him the NSAA Men’s basketball player-of-the-week.
Senior forward Melvin Collins added 17 points, while junior guard Michael Vandall added 14 and senior forward Austin Payne netted 10.
The No. 4 Blue Hawks will host No. 5 Valley City State in the first round of the conference tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m.
