With wind gusts up to 37 mph, it wasn't the most pleasant day for a track and field meet.
However, for the Dickinson High and Dickinson Trinity track and field teams, it meant the first home meet of the season.
After spending a majority of the season inside due to weather conditions, the Midgets and the Titans managed to hold their first home meet of the season, the Coca-Cola Invitational, on Tuesday at the Biesiot Activities Center.
"It was chance to get all of our kids on the track at home," Dickinson co-head coach Jay Schobinger said. "I thought for most part, considering the weather, the kids handled things well. You just never know, you could get a day like today, for the West Region meet (which Dickinson will host on May 18)."
With the cold and windy conditions, the chance of getting a state-qualifying time or mark in most events proved difficult.

Nonetheless, the Midgets were able to nab one new qualifier; its first on the girls side. Ali Moody qualified in the triple jump at 34 feet, 2 inches. She placed second in the event.
Jace Dukart has already qualified in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. However, he was able to improve his time in the 100 to 11.15 to take runner-up.
Trinity javelin thrower Ben Gordon didn't let the pain set him back.
Despite a fractured scaphoid bone in his right wrist that will require surgery to take a piece of bone from his hip and place it in his hand at the end of the school year, the senior made a toss of 172-5 to increase his previous state-qualifying distance by nearly six feet.
"I thought what I did today against the weather was pretty good," Gordon said. "It was better than what I expected."
Though the unpleasant conditions made for a tough day, Trinity co-head coach Andrew DesRosier felt the team battled throughout the entire day.
"I'm still cold," DesRosier said a couple hours after the track and field meet ended. "But we had kids that battled through it and competed hard. It's not the type of weather where everybody is going to run personal bests. Everyone worked hard and everyone fought for everything."
Minot won the boys and girls divisions with 218.5 and 215 points, respectively, while Dickinson placed runner-up in both division. Trinity, which was the only Class B team at the meet, topped Class A Williston in both the boys and girls divisions.

"We went up against some tough competition," DesRosier said. "The kids fought through the elements and came away with victories. Hopefully that sets them up with some confidence."
The Midgets host a girls-only meet at noon Thursday at BAC. Since the Badlands Conference meet in Beach was postponed from Tuesday to Thursday, Trinity will travel to Beach at 1:30 p.m.
"The girls get to do it again on Thursday," Schobinger said. "The more we can compete here, the better it will be."
"We want to go in there with our eyes on the prize," DesRosier said. "We know the weather is going to be better. It's going to be easier to run personal-best times or hit qualifying marks. We want to go and chase after them."
