BELLEVUE, Neb. - The Dickinson State men’s basketball team knew it would be going up against stiff competition.

The Blue Hawks, nonetheless, still had trouble keeping up.

No. 23-ranked Bellevue defeated DSU 97-63 on Saturday in a North Star Athletic Association contest. DSU (12-14, 5-6 NSAA) is now sitting fifth in the conference.

The Bruins (19-9, 6-3) were led by Mike Cardenas, who shot 6 of 13 from the field and 4 of 10 from 3-point range for 17 points. Chris Ashanti scored 16 points on 4 of 10 shooting, Jerred Cook was 5 of 10 from 3-point range for 15 points, Nicolus Guzman scored 12 points while shooting 5 of 8 and Wes Burke added 10 points.

As a team, Bellevue hit 49 percent of its shots and 42 percent of its 3-pointers.

The Blue Hawks were 36 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from beyond the arc.

DSU was led by Curtis Redd, who scored 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting. Gilberto Shojgreen Jr. added 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting with five rebounds, while Reggie Field Jr. recorded 12 points while going 5 for 13 from the field and six rebounds.
