BILLINGS, Mont. - The Dickinson State women’s basketball team defeated Rocky Mountain College 65-64 on Friday thanks to Ashley Bentz-Laub’s game-winning shot in the paint with fewer than five seconds to play.

The Bears led most of the way until the Blue Hawks battled to a tie at 63. RMC’s Hailee Farstveet, a Beach native, hit one of two free throws for a short-lived 64-63 advantage. DSU’s Taylor Henningsgard drove the lane on the next possession, but her shot rimmed out and fell into the hands of Megan Klein. In a scramble for the ball, the Blue Hawks called a timeout with 7.1 seconds remaining.

Bentz-Laub took the inbounds pass while driving into the lane and hit it off the glass with 4.9 seconds left. A heave at the buzzer fell no good for RMC.

Dickinson State scored just seven points in the second quarter but made up for it late, scoring 24 in the fourth while holding the Bears to just eight.

Bentz-Laub finished with five points while Henningsgard tallied 25 points with four assists and Klein scored 20 with 13 rebounds.
