BISMARCK - Dickinson High junior Garrett Billings became the latest state qualifier from the Dickinson High boys swimming and diving team on Thursday after placing third in the 50-meter freestyle in a meet against Bismarck High and Bismarck Legacy. Team scores were unavailable at press time.
Billings timed in at 25.38 seconds in the 50 freestyle, and he found success elsewhere in the meet also.
Billings helped the 200 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish in 1 minute, 49.48 seconds, and the 400 freestyle relay team to place second in 3:55.29. Billings was also second in the 100 freestyle in 58.37 seconds.
Bailey Decker, Steven Bratten and Aiden Healy teamed with Billings in the 200 freestyle relay, and Bratten, Taven Wilson and Jacob Ellerkamp were members of the 400 relay squad.
Bratten showed well also, winning the 100 backstroke in a personal-record time of 1:03.59 and taking second in the 100 butterfly in another personal-record time of 1:04.23.

Ellerkamp qualified for two more state events, the 50- and 500-meter freestyles. In the former, he placed second on Thursday in 23.75 seconds; in the latter, second in 5:36.08.
Wilson took fourth place in the 100 backstroke (1:18.35) and first in the 1-meter diving with a personal-record score of 143.55 points for the six attempts.
Decker was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.89 and fifth in the 50 freestyle in 27.77 seconds.
