MANDAN -- Competing in optimal temperatures and a light breeze, the Dickinson High boys track and field team added three more events to its state meet docket Saturday at the Mandan Invitational.
"It was a pretty quality meet," Dickinson co-head coach Jay Schobinger said. "There was a lot of good competition and a lot of good races."
As soon as the meet started, the Midgets were ready to go and it showed in the opening race.
Dickinson took runner-up in the 3,200-meter relay at 8 minutes, 16.11 seconds. The team consisted of seniors Austin Mack, sophomore Jackson Binstock and two freshmen, Collin Schock and Tanner Davidson. The quartet also teamed up to win and run a state qualifying time in the 1,600 relay (3:30.34).
"We told them, 'You are going to qualify this today,'" Schobinger said. "They kind of looked at us and they weren't too sure about it. All four of them ran exceptionally well."

Binstock's day wasn't finished. He had come close to qualifying in the 3,200 meters multiple times and quickly put any doubts to rest, winning the event with a time of 9:41.08.
"He finished very strong," Schobinger said. "All of our distance kids had their best times of the year."
Jace Dukart is qualified in the 100, 200 and 800 relay. Now, he can add the 400 to that list. He ran a qualifying time of 51.1 seconds.
The Midgets continue their season traveling to the Jock Stop Invitational in Glendive, Mont., on Friday.
