BISMARCK - After an ugly game one, in which Bismarck Century junior Connor Hanson no-hit the Dickinson High baseball team in a 10-0 win, the Midgets and Patriots battled in a close contest, that eventually fell to the Patriots in a 2-1 walk-off on Tuesday, April 23.

Although the Midgets dropped both games and are 5-5 overall, it was a non-conference doubleheader, so the boys in orange are still 4-0 in WDA play

After a scoreless five and a half innings, the Patriots (9-3, 3-3 WDA) scored in the bottom of the sixth to go up 1-0.

Senior Cody Maier tripled to open the seventh, and one out later, Kobe Krenz singled to right field to score Maier, tying the game at one.

Sophomore starting pitcher Nick Deschamp pitched into the seventh, walking Hanson to start the bottom of the frame. His infield made up for it, catching Hanson stealing, but Deschamp hit Weikum to put another run on base.

Freshman Troy Berg took over on the bump, drawing a grounder from junior Cade Feeney, who reached on a fielder’s choice.

With two gone and a man on first, the Midgets were close to sending the game to extra innings, but on the first pitch from Berg, senior Cameron Miller doubled to score Feeney, ending the game in walk-off fashion.

Over his 6 ⅓ innings, Deschamp allowed two runs on three hits, both being earned. He also struck out five while walking four.

Feeney started game two for the Patriots, and he too lasted 6 ⅓ innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, fanning 15 batters and walking none.
