BISMARCK - For a non-state game, the Dickinson High girls hockey team took the opportunity to try some new things out.
While Bismarck’s junior varsity defeated Dickinson 9-1 on Tuesday, Midgets head coach Al Takle said some of his new line combinations might help the team moving forward.
“We used it as an opportunity to try some things, and some things worked and some didn’t,” Takle said.
One of those new things tried out was two different goalies. Breanna Chamerlain secured 21 saves in the first two periods, and Grace Kraiter totaled 12 in the third.
But while trying the new line combos to find who plays well together, Takle said that left some opportunities for Bismarck.
“In doing that, I thought we had a pretty good line setup,” Takle said, “but that left us a little bit weaker on our other line, and we some trouble getting the puck out of their zone, and that led to them getting some good shots on net.”
The only goal for Dickinson came from Kennedy Kuntz off an assist from Hallie Hoffer 14 minutes, 26 seconds into the second period. To get more scoring and better defense, Takle said he hopes he found some lineups that work heading into the Midgets’ game against Jamestown at 2 p.m. Saturday at the West River Ice Center.
“I thought we found some combinations that worked for us,” Takle said. “We have to make sure we come out and play hard for that game.”
