A day removed from a two-game sweep at the hands of Valley City State, Dickinson State baseball, hosting the Vikings (15-19, 9-3 NSAA) Saturday for another doubleheader, split the day, salvaging a conference win and avoiding a weekend sweep.

Behind seven innings from Blue Hawk starter Gabe Lizarraga, DSU took the first game, 14-6, the same tally the Vikings bested DSU (17-17, 7-5 NSAA) by on Friday.

VCSU bounced back in the second game, though, scoring six in the third inning and totalling 15 hits in a 9-5 victory to take the weekend four-game series.

In Lizarraga’s seven innings, he allowed five runs, all earned, with three strikeouts and 12 hits. He lasted four innings longer than Viking starter Jordan Roos, who was chased after only three innings, allowing six runs and eight hits. VCSU used four pitchers in all, while the Blue Hawks used two -- Lizarraga and Joey Buchanan for the final two.

On offense, DSU collected 21 hits and had five players with three (Dylan Skabo, Sagan Osborne, Jacob Cuch, Micquel Robinson and Trevor Oldham) and one (Danny Brescia) with four. Oldham added five RBI.

However, the offense wasn’t so readily available in the second for the Blue Hawks, who only conjured up five hits on five runs. In the seven inning affair, VCSU’s Steven Velarde went the distance, striking out eight and allowing four earned runs.

Sean Getchell started the game for DSU, going four innings, giving up 11 hits and eight runs.

Both Sagan Osborne and TJ McCullough homered for the Blue Hawks in game two.
