Blue Hawk men 15th, women 29th after first two days of CNFR

CASPER, Wyo. - As of Tuesday afternoon, the Dickinson State men’s rodeo team sat in 15th with 145 points and the women’s team was 29th with 10 points at the College National Finals Rodeo.
DSU’s Cameron Morman tied for second in the second go of steer wrestling, the event he won at the CNFR last season, by scoring in 4.2 seconds - only .3 seconds behind East Mississippi Community College’s Marcus Theriot 3.9 seconds. The senior earned 12th in the first go by finishing in 6.1 seconds and was behind Sam Houston State’s Matt Morian by two seconds.
In team roping, Tucker Dale tied for third in the first go by finishing in 5.8 seconds behind Cole Wheeler of Weatherford College who ended in 5.1 seconds. The DSU freshman was also 12th in the second go in 7.7 seconds, 2.7 seconds behind Wyatt Casper of Clarendon College.
Sadie Gjermundson scored 6.5 seconds for seventh in the first go of goat tying and was only .5 seconds away from the lead of Mikayla Harrison of Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Blue Hawks junior was 35th in the second go in 7.3 seconds as she trailed Tawny Barry of Eastern New Mexico with 6.2 seconds.
Gjermundson didn’t score in the first two rounds of breakaway roping.
Blake Smith scored the 13th best go in bareback riding with 71.5 points on the first go and was 8.5 points behind Clayton Biglow from Feather River College. On the second go, the DSU senior scored another 71.5 points for seventh in the round and was 5.5 points behind leader Dylan Wahlert of Casper College.
DSU sophomore Justin Ward was 32nd in the second go of steer wrestling in 17.1 seconds after not scoring in the first go.
Chance Glass was 32nd in team roping in the first go of team roping and the sophomore didn’t score in the second go.
Morman was 21st in the second go of the tie down roping by finishing in 12.8 seconds but was 5.1 seconds behind Colton Farquer of Cal Poly State-San Luis Obispo. Morman didn’t score on his first go, which was led by Bryson Sechrist of Northwestern Oklahoma State with a time of 8.4 seconds. Morman also was 32nd in the first go of team roping in 17.2 seconds before he didn’t score in the second go.
Skye Schaper was 31st in barrel racing in the first go with 14.75 seconds, trailing Jessica Lewis of Blue Mountain Community College with 13.95 seconds. The Blue Hawks senior concluded the second go for 41st in 15.47 seconds, which was behind Taylor Engesser of Gillette College with 13.95 seconds.
In breakaway roping, Schaper was also 36th in the first go that was led by Brandi Hollenbeck of Garden City Community College with 1.9 seconds, and 30th in the second go, which was led by McNeese State’s Mia Manzanares with 2.1 seconds. Schaper registered times of 4.9 seconds and 13.5 seconds, respectively.
The first go, which followed two morning slacks, was scheduled for Tuesday night while the second go was slated for tonight.
