ABERDEEN, S.D. - After splitting contests with Waldorf University (Iowa) on Friday, April 6, the Dickinson State softball team won both games on Saturday, taking the 3-1 series win.
In the first outing, the Blue Hawks topped the Warriors 5-4 with a walkoff double by Andrea Rodriguez that drove in the winning run. Later, a home run from junior Kayla Stephens capped off an 11-3 victory.
In the first game, the teams were tied at four going into the ninth. A triple from Stephens in the sixth inning drove in junior catcher Claire Shoffit and Stephens scored the tying run when senior Mariah Gamboa hit a line drive out of the infield.
With one out and a 2-2 count in the bottom of the ninth, Rodriguez sent freshman Sarah Dobitz home from first with a line drive to left field to end the game.
Dickinson State (19-15, 10-7 NSAA) senior pitcher Jalen Creech went the distance, allowing 11 hits, walking five and striking out two.
