Blue Hawks fall to Briar Cliff, Jamestown

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Dickinson State softball team couldn’t find a way to beat Briar Cliff College (Iowa) or University of Jamestown on Saturday.
The Blue Hawks were swept in a doubleheader as Briar Cliff won game one 3-2. The Jimmies took game two 10-4.
DSU got on the board first in against Briar Cliff, but the Chargers put up a three-run fifth inning to secure its win. McKenzie Kenobbie and Morgan Glowa scored two runs for the Blue Hawks. For Briar Cliff, second baseman Abby Thomsen went 1 for 2 with a run and RBI, first baseman Jessica Bastian and shortstop Kaitlin Briley each added a run, and third baseman Brooke Lyman went 2 for 3 with a RBI.
Alexzandria Watson got the start for DSU as well as the loss. She lasted 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on four hits. Regan Lawrence relieved Watson and gave up no hits or runs. Briar Cliff pitcher Hannah Hustad pitched a complete game with two runs on seven hits and five walks.
There was more scoring in game two, but DSU’s bats weren’t as efficient as the Jimmies’.
Eight different players scored for Jamestown while catcher Sydney Greenlund and first baseman Emily Newman had multi-run games. Greenlund went 2 for 4 with two runs while Newman finished 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI. Other scorers for the Jimmies were Sydney Jeffers, Rylee Perez, Hanna Dunnigan, Autumn Wang, Brittany Rheault and Brook Rheault.
Brittany Rheault pitched for Jamestown and allowed four runs on eight hits over seven innings of work.
Lawrence got the start as well as the loss for DSU. The senior pitcher gave up 11 hits, five runs and was relieved after 3 1/3 innings.
DSU’s Monique Yslas, Taylor Ursel and Glowa each scored runs while pinch runner Brooke Schmitt made it home as well.
The Blue Hawks continue their season against Hastings College (Neb.) at 9 a.m. and Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at 11 a.m. today.
