Blue Hawks have a winning weekend in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Blue Hawks won five straight games in Tucson, Ariz., before finally dropping one, a 14-6 decision in five innings to Mount Marty College (S.D.) on Sunday, March 10, at Lincoln Park.

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Blue Hawks won five straight games in Tucson, Ariz., before finally dropping one, a 14-6 decision in five innings to Mount Marty College (S.D.) on Sunday, March 10, at Lincoln Park.

On Saturday, the Blue Hawks defeated Northwestern (Iowa) 7-1 and Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.) 11-3, and on Sunday, won over Park University (Mo.) 10-5.

Senior infielder Sonja Lawrence went 6-for-13 at the plate, including a double and a home run in the win over Park. Also strong at the plate for the Blue Hawks (8-6), was senior catcher Claire Shoffit. She went 5-for-11 at the plate, driving in six RBIs over the four games.

Sophomore Jaya Allen and senior Abi Brooks took turns at the plate, with Allen throwing 10.2 innings and Brooks hurling for 12.2 innings.

Brooks allowed 13 hits and nine runs, six being earned. Meanwhile, Allen allowed 11 hits and 11 runs, nine earned. She also struck out 17 batters.

The two were also impressive with a bat. Allen was 4-for-10, plating five RBIs and Brooks had six hits over 14 at-bats, earning a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Allen leads the team with a 1.111 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, while Brooks is third with .929.
