Blue Hawks take two against Presentation

ABERDEEN, S.D. - After a nine-game skid, the Dickinson State baseball team took two wins on the road.
The Blue Hawks swept Presentation College 8-7, 5-2 in a doubleheader on Friday.
The two teams exchanged leads throughout the game with the Saints on top 7-3 going into the seventh inning. In the second at-bat of the inning, left fielder Chris Mjelstad doubled to left-center to bring in Thad Lane.
Mjelstad scored on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Caleb Burgard and right fielder Austin Taft drove in the game-winning run on an RBI double to deep right center.
Mjelstad finished 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI while, Taft, Jordan Tescher, Eric Contreras, Lane, Ryan Risse and Sam Bisson driving in the team’s other six runs.
Brendan Hardaway got the start for the Blue Hawks and lasted 4 1/3 innings, with eight hits, six runs, two walks and two strike outs. Ian Anderson was credited with the win after allowing no runs and one hit over 2/3 an inning.
For Presentation, designated hitter and starting pitcher Ryan Baldonado hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and right fielder Jake Bunjovac contributed two RBI. Relief pitcher Alex Lunneborg was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings.
It took DSU three innings to score a run, but lit up Presentation’s starting pitcher, Chad Ellingson, in the top of the third to secure its win. The Blue Hawks scored four runs, starting with an RBI single by Contreras which scored Joe Binstock and Taft. DSU scored in the next two at-bats with an RBI single by Mjelstad and Ryan Risse.
Contreras went 2 for 5 with a run and 2 RBI while Mjelstad and Risse each went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Eric Seiler picked up the win for DSU after pitching seven innings, giving up 10 hits, two runs and struck out seven.
Presentation’s two runs came in the fifth and sixth innings. Albert Castro went 2 for 3 with a run and Baldonado finished 1 for 5 with the other run. Ellingson pitched a complete game and allowed 10 hits, three earned runs, struck out seven and walked four.
DSU continues its series with Presentation with another doubleheader starting at noon today.
