TUCSON, Ariz. -- It was another day of relative ease for the Dickinson State softball team.

Dickinson State veteran pitcher Mehgan Shaw scored a victory by firing a two-hitter as the Blue Hawks downed Cornerstone (Nev.) University 14-0 at the Tucson Invitational on Saturday.

In the second game, the Blue Hawks reached for No. 3 starter Nicole Marcoux and she didn't disappoint, throwing a two-hitter and giving up one run in five innings of work as DSU won 9-1.

"She's very capable as she proved today, stepping in and pitching a great game," DSU assistant coach Jamie Jung said.

The Blue Hawks scored 23 runs on 25 hits in the two games combined.

"As the games went along, we got stronger," Jung said. "The last couple of innings we exploded for a bunch of runs."

The fifth-ranked Blue Hawks (5-0) rested ace Sara Jane Webster, who is scheduled to pitch this morning against top-ranked and defending national champion Lubbock Christian (Texas) University.

"This is kind of what the team's been looking forward to," Jung said. "A chance to compete with the best in the nation."
