SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Dickinson State men’s and women’s track and field teams were back in action and started the outdoor season with some national-qualifying marks.
The Blue Hawks picked up three national qualifiers - Breyan Miller, Jose Chorro and Whitney Leuenberger - during the Yellow Jacket Spring Open at Black Hills State on Saturday.
Miller and Leuenberger, who were DSU’s only qualifiers during the indoor season, qualified in the 200-meter dash and shot put, respectively. Miller won the event with a time of 21.50 seconds while won with a distance of 43 feet, 8.5 inches.
Chorro qualified in the 110-meter hurdles and won the event in 14.79 seconds.
On the men’s side Miller also won the 100-meter run (10.83 seconds) and DSU took first in the 1,600-meter relay (3:26.40). For the women, Paitton Herbst won the javelin throw (118-11).
DSU’s next meet isn’t until April 10 at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.
