MANDAN - The Dickinson High girls hockey team was searching for its second straight statewide win.
However, the Midgets ran out of gas in the final 13 minutes of play.
Mandan rallied to score four straight goals in the third period en route to a 4-2 win over Dickinson on Thursday.
Dickinson’s Kayla Wallace netted a goal in the first and second period. Kelsey Gillen and Rachel Lantz came on for the assist on both goals. The Midgets held a 2-0 lead going into the final 17 minutes of play.
But the Braves’ Mariah Marsh opened the floodgates four minutes into the third quarter. She ended the final 13 minutes scoring three goals, while Samantha Bussman added the team’s fourth goal.
Dickinson’s Paige Fahlstrom was saddled with the loss, while stopping 44 shots. Sara Zachmeier was credit with the win after making 20 saves.
The Midgets were without Kennadee Fritz and Kelsey Calhoun. Fritz was serving a one-game suspension after being ejected out of Saturday’s game against Devils Lakes, while Calhoun was battling an illness
Dickinson looks to get back on the winning page traveling to Minot at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
