Behind a second period goal from junior forward Ryan Bren and a third period goal from sophomore defender Jaren Hugelen, the Dickinson High boys hockey team remains undefeated on the season following a 3-1 road victory over Mandan on Thursday, Nov. 30.
"It was a typical Dickinson-Mandan West Region game," Dickinson head coach Dallas Kuntz said. "We have always had a tough time at Mandan so for us to come out with the three points is huge. I thought we controlled the game while playing five-on-five. Our speed on the forecheck was big for us. We faced adversity for the first time this season and I am proud of the way the boys responded."
After falling behind early when Mandan sophomore forward Justus Sayler scored early in the first period, Dickinson responded 89 seconds later when Chris Zubke beat Mandan junior goaltender Maysion Mattern to equalize.
The Midgets (2-0) pulled ahead for good when Bren scored unassisted five minutes into the second period. Hugelen added cushion to the lead when he scored 1:50 into the third.
Dickinson junior goaltender Riley Wittenberg stopped 20 of 21 shots while Mattern had 34 saves for the Braves.
