One of the West Region's top girls tennis teams made quick work of the Dickinson in a dual on Thursday.

Bismarck Century took an 8-1 victory over the Midgets, whose only victory came from freshman Meryl Kovacs at No. 6 singles.

Kovacs, who has been bouncing back and forth between the varsity and junior varsity squads while playing mostly doubles at the varsity level, earned a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Century senior Rachael Scott.

"It's nice to see her get a big win," Dickinson coach James Kramer said. "Hopefully that'll instill some confidence where she can stay there and compete."

Kelly Swanberg fought off Dickinson sophomore Lindsey Bakken in the first set at No. 4 singles before sweeping the second set.

The Century senior won the first set 7-6 with an 8-6 tiebreaker and took the second set 6-0.

Dickinson sophomore Mariah Jorda put up a fight at No. 5 singles before falling to Paige Fettig 6-3, 7-5.

"Our bottom two competed very well," Kramer said. "Doubles, I'm still mixing and looking at different combinations."
