DICKINSON – With the North Star Athletic Association’s track & field championships being hosted at the Biesiot Activities Center from Wednesday, May 10 to Friday, May 12, 2023, that makes the third postseason event held in Dickinson in the last week. The NSAA postseason softball tournament was hosted at Bravera Field last weekend from May 5-8 and the postseason baseball tourney was at Astoria Field during the same spell.
Among the highlights of Day 1 in the NSAA track & field championships will be the decathlon and heptathlon for the men and women, respectively, with the 100m dash getting under way at 4 p.m. for the decathlon and 4:15 for the 110m hurdles in the heptathlon. From there, decathlon events will be held roughly every half-hour with the long-jump, shot-put, high-jump and 400m dash in the decathlon and the high-jump starting at 4:45 for the heptathlon and the shot-put and 200m dash held every hour so thereafter.
Day 2 on Thursday, May 11 will see the decathlon and heptathlon continuing and running events beginning at 2 p.m. kicking off with the 5000m run for women and men and the 100m dash to follow, among other events. Field events will be held starting at 3 p.m, including the triple-jump, hammer-throw, pole-vault and javelin for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Day 3 on Friday will feature field events beginning at 10 a.m., including the long-jump, high-jump, discus and shot-put for men and women and the running events will start at noon with the 3000m steeplechase opening the competitions and the 4x100m relay for men and women to follow, among all remaining running events.
The BAC event comes on the heels of last-week’s North Dakota State University Tune-Up Meet that featured 11 teams, including Dickinson State University at the NCAA Division I facility in Fargo. Blue Hawk athletes turned in some solid performances in that event, which is bound to be good preparation for this-week’s meet.
