Conference tourney pairings announced for DSU baseball, softball

The NAIA unaffiliated/North Star-Frontier Conference baseball tournament begins Friday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field in Valley City. The NAIA unaffiliated/North Star-Frontier Conference softball tournament also begins Friday in Jamestown.
After finishing 35-13 overall and 20-1 in conference, the DSU softball team has clinched the top seed and will play No. 6 seed Dakota State (10-30, 5-12 conference) at 10 a.m. Friday. The Blue Hawks swept Dakota State in the regular season, topping them 5-0, 7-3, 9-1 in a tripleheader on April 12.
In baseball, DSU (10-38, 6-14 conference) grabbed the No. 5 seed and will play No. 2 seed Mayville State (37-12, 15-5 conference) at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The Comets took four games against the visiting Blue Hawks including two shutouts, 6-0 and 11-0.
The University of Jamestown was awarded the top seed in the baseball tournament after finishing the regular season 31-8 overall and 14-4 in conference. The Jimmies won five of their last six games and split their final series at DSU, with the Blue Hawks winning the final game of the series 3-0.
Jamestown will play No. 6 seed Presentation College (S.D.) in the first game of the tournament at noon Friday.
