Dakota State sweeps Dickinson State

MINOT - Sunday’s blizzard buried Dickinson under snow, forcing the Dickinson State and Dakota State baseball teams to travel to Minot for its doubleheader on Saturday.
The Trojans made the trek worth it, sweeping the Blue Hawks 3-2 and 9-3.
Dickinson State scored two runs in the first inning and was held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Left fielder Chris Mjelstad hit a two-run double. Mjelstad finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBI.
Eric Contreras was on the mound for the Blue Hawks and held the team’s 2-0 shutout into the seventh inning. With one out and with runners on second and third, Ryan Schlesser singled to left field to bring home Danny Flahie.
Contreras, who finished the game with five hits, three earned runs and seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings, was replaced by Ian Anderson.
Anderson gave up one hit and the game-tying and game-winning runs were charged to Contreras. Austin Weber completed the game for Dakota State and allowed four hits, two earned runs and struck out nine batters.
The Trojans came out swinging in game two and scored eight of its nine runs in the first three innings. Dickinson State’s Brendan Hardaway only lasted two innings and gave up nine hits, eight runs - five earned - and two walks. Chas Allen came in for damage control and held Dakota State to just two hits over five innings.
Austin Taft and Jordan Tescher scored the Blue Hawks’ two runs in the first inning and Seth Flynn picked up the final run in the sixth.
Dakota State’s Ian Barker was 2 for 5 with two solo home runs, while Joe Davis went 3 for 4 with two doubles, three RBI and scored one run.
Dickinson State and Dakota State will finish its series with another doubleheader starting at noon today.
