DHS boys and girls track and field teams sweep opening meet

WILLISTON - Competing against six other schools, the Dickinson High boys and girls track and field squads picked up resounded team victories in the season opener of the 2018 campaign at Williston High School.
The Lady Midgets placed atop the leaderboard with a team score of 168 points, more than 100 points better than runner-up Stanley High. The Blue Jays collected 67 points while Watford City followed with 56 points. Minot, the next highest WDA school, finished fourth with 54 points.
On the boys side, Dickinson earned 151 points, outpacing the host Coyotes who finished in second with 107.5 points. Watford City followed with 88.5 points with Stanley and Turtle Mountain Community High tied with 30 points.
The girls were victorious in seven events. Sophomore Peyton Selle captured the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.02 seconds. Selle joined senior Emily Keller, Delaynee Zubke and Mattilyn Biel on the 1600-meter relay, taking the top spot with a time of 4:31.03.
Dickinson also triumphed in the 3200 relay as Aleigha Villars, Symone Beld and Raghyn Murphy joined Zubke, running the race in 11:10.71.
DHS were particularly dominate in field events, sweeping the top three finishers in the long jump and the triple jump. Midgets finished first and second in the shot put while junior Meghan Ackerman won the pole vault with a height of nine feet, six inches.
Meanwhile, the boys captured victories in four events.
Dickinson freshman Brady Yoder earned first place in the 800 with a time of 2:09.98. Long distance success followed with a win in the 3200 relay.
DHS flooded the leaderboard in the long jump with six Midgets taking the top seven spots, led by Nathaniel Frimpong who finished with a mark of 19 feet, 4 inches. Similar results came in the triple jump as Midgets took six of the top eight spots, paced by KiJhana Chavez with a mark of 38 feet, 6 inches.
