DHS girls 3rd at West Region meet

BISMARCK -- The Dickinson girls cross country team took third at the Class A West Region meet Saturday at Tom O'Leary Golf Course.

The girls earned 83 points, with Bismarck High taking the title with 38 points.

"We're pleased with we're we ended up," Dickinson coach Shawn Leiss said.

Minot High's Brecca Wahlund won with a time of 15:28.55.

Whitney Schatz finished a team-high 10th for Dickinson with a time of 16 minutes, 35 seconds.

Dickinson had two more in the top 20 with Alyssa Hanson finishing 12th (16:42.73), Morgan Kuntz in 16th (16:52.35) and Kelli Pavlicek in 20th 17:10.09.

Vladimir Kutka finished eighth (17:34.84) in the boys race to lead Dickinson.

Dickinson finished fifth with 189 points.

"We're hoping with the addition of Jackson Binstock can help," Leiss said.

Binstock, an eighth-grader, won the junior high race, will race with Dickinson at the state meet in two weeks.

Bismarck High took the title with 33 points, led by Jake Leingang, who won with a time of 16:07.39.

"There weren't any surprises with anyone on the boys and girls side," Leiss said.
