A goal from sophomore defender Taia Klaman two minutes into the third period put the Dickinson High girls hockey team up 2-1 over Mandan, but two minutes later, Braves defender Maci Berg tied it up.
The Midgets couldn't muster another goal and the game continued to overtime. Fourteen seconds in, Mandan freshman forward Emily Froelich scored, granting the Braves the 3-2 win at Schwan Cadillac Rink on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
"Tough loss. We battled hard," Midgets head coach Al Takle said. "Worked hard to get the lead in the third, need to work on finishing."
Mandan kicked off the scoring with a goal from forward Justyne Mehlhoff two minutes and 19 seconds into the opening frame. Just over three minutes later, Dickinson freshman defender Madison McChesney evened the score at one with a power-play goal.
Nobody scored in the second, but the Braves kept Midget goaltender Baylee Kram working, putting 10 shots on goal.
