WATERTOWN, Minn - For the first time in 686 days, the Dickinson High gymnastics team did not finish a meet on top of the leaderboard.
With a score of 142.050, the Midgets took home second place at the Watertown-Mayer Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5, from the Watertown-Mayer High School Gym.
Watertown-Mayer-Mound Westonka (Minn.), the host of the invitational, finished first with a score of 143.750.
Despite the team’s runner-up finish since the 2017 West Region Tournament, Dickinson did receive a strong showing from Ayanna Fossum, who captured the all-around with a score of 37.250.
The junior won two events outright, producing the best mark in the uneven bars and floor exercise. As part of a three-way tie for first, Fossum, Dickinson senior Dacia Rambousek and Watertown-Mayer-Mound Westonka senior Teagan Schmidt earned a score of 9.000 on the vault.

Aided by a second-place in the balance beam, Rambousek finished third in the all-around, racking up a mark of 34.900.
Eighth-grader Amy Fridley and senior Meghan Ackerman were the other Midgets in the all-around top-10, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
“Ayanna had a very good meet. Other than that, we were pretty up and down,” Dickinson head coach Kent Van Ells said. “It was the first meet after Christmas break and it showed. This was the first time we met any of these teams.”
