JAMESTOWN -- The Dickinson High softball team's bats didn't get going until late in the first game, but carried over easily into the second game.

The Midgets took a sweep of West Region opponent Jamestown 16-6 and 18-4 on Tuesday.

"We started off a little slow and then the girls started seeing the ball real well and never looked back," Dickinson head coach Bill Butterfield said. "We were being selective and looking for the pitch we wanted to hit."

Dickinson scored 10 runs in the sixth inning. Lexi Yates crushed a two-run home run for her lone hit of the game. She also scored two runs.

Riley Cooper went 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Midgets (15-7, 12-6 West).

Briana Farnsworth also had two doubles.

Haley Butterfield and Madison Jahner combined to pitch seven innings, allowing six runs and striking out seven. Kadie Anderson took the loss.

The Blue Jays (3-17, 3-15) could only muster four runs in the sixth inning in an attempt to force a seventh inning. Kayla Thoele was the only hitter with two hits.

In the second game, the Midgets tallied 11 runs in the first three innings. Dickinson's early scoring didn't stop it from putting up seven in the final two innings.

"Good hitting is contagious," Bill Butterfield said. "It takes one two to get it started and then it seems like everybody is hitting well."

Kelsey Lafond took the win for the Midgets, while Thoele was charged with the loss. Lafond pitched four innings and Jahner came in to finish out the final inning.

Jessica Priebe, Lafond and Beth Honeyman all had three hits and each scored at least two runs. Rachel Jahner went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks and scored five runs. Yates was hot at the plate again with two hits and three runs scored.

Alicia Beckman went 2-for-2 with a triple and scored a run for the Blue Jays. Anderson, Kyra Dewald, Kari Overby and Stacy Fritz all collected hits.

The Midgets have some time off before traveling to West Region opponent Minot High on Saturday.

"We are going to get rested up and come back to practice on Thursday and Friday," Bill Butterfield said. "Minot has been right up there at the top of the West. We're looking forward to it."
