WILLISTON -- The Dickinson High girls basketball team almost let one slip away in the second half Thursday night against Williston.
But, thanks to the strong play of senior Jess Herauf down the stretch, the Midgets won the West Region game 54-46 after their 16-point halftime lead was erased in the second half.
"Jess dominated the boards in the end," Dickinson head coach Dan Pender said. "But all the girls stepped up when they needed too."
The Midgets failed to score in the first 7 minutes of the second half.
"We did a lot of good things in the first half," Pender said. "I told them at halftime that they (Williston) were going to come after us more and we just didn't handle it well for awhile."

Herauf had 14 points and 12 rebounds while Rachel Schroeder and Ali Moody each added 10.
It is only the second win of the season for the Midgets (2-10, 2-8 West).
Dani Clarke had 14 and seven rebounds and Jaclyn Lee 13 to lead the Coyotes (3-10, 2-9 West).
"Nice to get another win," Pender said. "The girls played well ... Just got to keep working on the fundamental stuff."
