MANDAN - The Dickinson High boys golf team placed sixth in its first outing of the season on Friday, turning in a team score of 350 at the Mandan Invitational at Prairie West Golf Course.

"It was the first tournament and there were some nerves, but I thought the guys were playing really well, hitting the ball really well," Dickinson head coach Sara Berglund said. "I do think around the greens we struggled a little bit more - chipping and putting, definitely - but that's normal at the beginning of the year."

Turtle Mountain took the top team spot with a mark of 320, led by a 73 by second-place finisher Jackson Davis. Bismarck St. Mary's was second with a 323, paced by Cole Herbel's first-place 71, and Bismarck Century finished a stroke behind at 324 to round out the top three.

Junior Dylan Pokorny carded an 85 to lead the Midgets.

"He was hitting the ball so well, very straight, and you could tell he was playing with confidence," Berglund said. "Around the greens, he was having a tough time adjusting, but he really played well. He's hitting the ball a lot farther this year."
