Dickinson High pitchers stymie Sabers

BISMARCK -- Dickinson High's pitchers kept Bismarck Legacy's lineup off balance all day on Saturday as the Midgets allowed just five hits through two games and came away with wins by scores of 6-2 and 11-0.

BISMARCK - Dickinson High's pitchers kept Bismarck Legacy's lineup off balance all day on Saturday as the Midgets allowed just five hits through two games and came away with wins by scores of 6-2 and 11-0.

Dickinson improved to 15-1 with the wins, and the Sabers dropped to 4-12.

In the first game, Kendall Jones allowed just three hits in five full innings. He walked four and struck out five.

A sacrifice fly from Treven Hopfauf put the Midgets on the board first in the second inning, and Cam Jorda doubled Dickinson's lead with a solo home run in the third inning.

Legacy got within a run, at 3-2, in the third inning when Tanner Jose and Dawson Keller each knocked run-scoring hits.

A balk and an error from Legacy gifted the Midgets two more runs in the fourth inning. Eli Jung singled in the fifth inning to score Jorda for the game's final run. Jung finished 2 for 2 in the game, and Tanner Ouellette was 1 for 2 with a double.

In the second game, Chris Zubke pitched three innings and allowed just two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Shawn Steffan pitched the final two innings of the five-inning, run-ruled game and allowed just one walk and no hits. He struck out three to earn the save.

Dickinson scored two runs in each of the first three innings before scoring five in the fourth to end the game early.

Jung and Lucas Jones hit consecutive RBI doubles in the first inning for an early lead, and the Midgets never looked back. Jacob Koskovich also had a double in the game, one that scored two runs in the fourth inning to put Dickinson ahead 10-0. He also had a sacrifice fly earlier in the game.

Ouellette went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, and Steffan went 1 for 3 with a walk, one RBI and three runs scored.
