Dickinson High softball powers past Jamestown

JAMESTOWN -- The Dickinson High softball team showed off its offensive prowess on Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader with Jamestown by scores of 11-1 and 16-5.

JAMESTOWN - The Dickinson High softball team showed off its offensive prowess on Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader with Jamestown by scores of 11-1 and 16-5.

In the first game, the Midgets put up three runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone for the game. They added a pair of runs in the third and fifth before finishing with four more in the sixth.

Senior Paige Schweitzer went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored. Sophomore Kamryn Kuntz also tallied three hits and added two RBI and two runs.

Sarah Dobitz, Jordie McNeilly and Julie Knight all earned two hits.

In the circle, junior Amber Sickler pitched 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and four walks. She allowed just three hits. Sickler lost the shutout in the fifth inning when Randi Kleinsasser hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Mariah Wick to score.

In the second game, the Midgets and Blue Jays each scored three times in the first inning and twice in the third. It was all Dickinson after that, however, as the Midgets scored six runs in the fourth inning and five more in the seventh.

Senior Abby Jones got the win for the Midgets after striking out seven and walking three in seven complete innings. She allowed seven hits, but only three of Jamestown’s runs were earned.

Dobitz and McNeilly each went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Schweitzer and Kamryn Kuntz each tallied two hits and three RBI. Jones helped her own cause at the plate by going 2 for 2 and drawing three walks. She scored three runs and added two RBI.
