Dickinson State Athlete of the Week - Donte Walker

After the Dickinson State men's basketball team was down by as many as nine points against Viterbo University (Wis.), junior guard Donte Walker scored the tying basket, as well as the go-ahead 3-pointer to put the Blue Hawks up 75-72.

After the Dickinson State men's basketball team was down by as many as nine points against Viterbo University (Wis.), junior guard Donte Walker scored the tying basket, as well as the go-ahead 3-pointer to put the Blue Hawks up 75-72.

Thanks to his 14 points, Dickinson State defeated the V-Hawks 75-70 on Friday, Feb. 1. The next day, Walker contributed eight points in an 87-69 win over Waldorf University (Iowa).

Walker earned five assists and five rebounds over the pair of conference wins as well.

DP: Why did you choose Dickinson State?

DW: "I chose Dickinson State because Coach Vaughan reached out to me and I just really wanted to be noticed by someone and he was the first one to notice me. I chose Dickinson State because of that."

DP: How long have you been playing basketball and what do you most enjoy about it?

DW: "I've been playing basketball since I was like five years old. I just enjoy competing. I love it. It's something I've always wanted to do, play college basketball."

DP: What is your major?

DW: "My major is physical education."

DP: Do you participate in anything else on campus?

DW: "No, just basketball."

DP: Why do you think your team, and you individually, were so successful this past weekend?

DW: "We were successful because we played together and my success comes from them."

DP: Do you have any team goals for the rest of the season?

DW: "Team goal is just to win out the rest of this year and make a playoff run and get to the national tournament."

DP: Do you have any individual goals?

DW: "Just win."

DP: Where is the best place to eat in town?

DW: "Paragon (Bowl) is pretty good. I like the macaroni bites."

DP: If you had to get rid of two or your senses, what would they be?

DW: "Senses. I would get rid of my vision. I'm blind. I don't know how I shoot so good. And probably my smell because some of my teammates are stinking."

DP: If you could have a superpower what would it be?

DW: "To fly."

DP: Country or Hip-hop?

DW: "Hip-hop."

DP: Coke or Pepsi?

DW: "Neither."

DP: What would the alternative be?

DW: "Water."

DP: What is the best show or movie you watched recently?

DW: "Right now I'm watching Empire. It's a pretty good show."

DP: Do you have a sports idol?

DW: "Kobe Bryant. ... Grew up watching him as a kid."
