The Dickinson State baseball team was picked to finish fifth in the North Star Athletic Association in 2016, according to the preseason coaches’ poll that was released Tuesday.
Bellevue (Neb.), a newcomer to the league, earned 10 first-place votes and took the top spot in the poll with 100 points. BU finished 46-15 last season and came within one game of reaching the Avista-NAIA World Series.
The University of Jamestown was picked second in the poll (87 points), while Mayville State (83), Valley City State (61) and Dickinson State (59) rounded out the top five. The Blue Hawks made an appearance in the NSAA postseason tournament championship game last season before losing to Mayville State after two championship games.
Dakota (S.D.) State, Viterbo (Wis.), Waldorf (Iowa), Presentation (S.D.) and Winnipeg (Manitoba) were tabbed in spots 6-10, respectively.
The NSAA postseason tournament will be held May 6-10 at Jamestown at Valley City State.
