LINDSBORG, Kan. - The Dickinson State baseball team split its weekend series 2-2 against Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.).
In Saturday’s doubleheader, DWU won the first game 1-0 in extra innings, while the Blue Hawks closed out the series with an 8-7 win.
During the first game, DSU junior pitcher Chas Allen pitched a seven innings, allowed three hits and no runs, while striking out nine. In the top of the 10th inning, DWU’s Jonah Johnson hit a double to left field off junior reliever Brendan Hardaway to bring in Tyler Johnson for the win.
DSU couldn’t generate anything at the plate and finished with two hits and left 11 players on base.
In the second game, DSU’s offense was more active but pitching started off rocky. Sophomore Jeff VanCleave started for the Blue Hawks and struggled with his pitch location. He threw five innings, allowed six runs - four earned - struck out three and walked four.
VanCleave shined at the plate going went 4 for 4 with two runs and a RBI. Sophomore right fielder Eric Seiler brought in three runs and a RBI, third basemen Jordan Tescher had two runs and freshman short stop Thad Lane added a run and a RBI of his own.
The Blue Hawks return to Kansas for another weekend series. DSU plays Central Christian College (Kan.) at 12:30 p.m. and McPherson College (Kan.) at 4 p.m. Friday.
