MITCHELL, S.D. - After dropping its first match of the day to Dakota Wesleyan, the Dickinson State volleyball team defeated Valley City State in four sets on Friday at the Corn Palace Classic hosted by Dakota Wesleyan.
The Blue Hawks won the first set against VCSU 25-21, but the Vikings got even in the second with a 25-16 set win. Dickinson State (1-5) earned the match victory after 25-15 and 25-22 wins in the final two sets.
DSU hit .300 for the match and was led by Ellie Hanser’s 11 kills. Shelby Gustafson and Sydney Bentz each followed with nine. Danielle Boyette led all players with 27 assists, and Shaylee Singleton tied for the match lead with 19 digs.
In their earlier match, Dakota Wesleyan (4-0) topped Dickinson State by set scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-20.
Tessa Sian led the Blue Hawks’ offense with eight kills, and Gustafson followed with five while Hanser and Bentz each added four.

The Tigers recorded eight service aces in the win, and the Blue Hawks hit just .125 as a team.
