MAYVILLE -- The Dickinson State women's basketball team got all it could handle Saturday afternoon against Mayville State.

But, the Blue Hawks had just enough at the end to hold off the Comets for a 74-72 Dakota Athletic Conference victory.

"That was a little closer than we would have liked," DSU head coach Andre Goldberg said. "But I'm glad we were able to hang on in the end."

Lead by senior Kelsey Boedeker's team-high 20 points, the Blue Hawks had four women score in double figures.

However, DSU had no answer for reigning NAIA player of the week Laura Taylor, who scored a game-high 36 points while going 14 of 17 from the free-throw line to lead the Comets.

"There's a reason she was player of the week," Goldberg said. "They got the ball down to her on the post and I don't think we ever really came up with an answer for her."

The Blue Hawks led 37-28 at halftime.

Amber Adams had 18 points and six rebounds. She was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.

"We shot a little better tonight than we have been," Goldberg said. "We did a pretty good job at moving the ball around and finding the open player against their zone defense."

Kylee Bittner scored 13 points for the Blue Hawks and Mandy Mullock added 12.

"There is no easy game on the road in the DAC," Goldberg said. "Everyone plays to protect their home court no matter their record."

DSU travels to Minot State on Wednesday.

"This weekend puts us in a good position for Wednesday day," Goldberg said. "We have been saying all year that we want to play our best basketball down the stretch and I think we are getting there."
