BISMARCK - The Dickinson High girls tennis team spent plenty of time practicing inside.
The Midgets had their first two tournaments and West Region dual postponed due to inclement weather.
However on Saturday, Dickinson finally played its first match of the season against the defending West Region champions Bismarck St. Mary’s. The Saints defeated the Dickinson 7-2.
“For the first time, we were able to get out and play a match,” Dickinson head coach James Kramer said. “You never want to start out with the defending WDA champs and one of the best teams in the state, but I thought the girls came out and did really well.”
Senior McKenna Love and junior Kayla Wallace posted the two wins for the Midgets.
Love defeated Emily Biechler at No. 5 singles with a three-set 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 win. Wallace took a 6-0, 7-5 win over Ashley Kilzer at No. 6 singles.
Despite taking the loss, Kramer was pleased to see the team compete.
The Midgets continue their traveling to Williston at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
“We are going to get an opportunity next week when we play Williston, Bismarck Century and Mandan,” Kramer said. “We’ll find out real quick where we are at.”
