Dillon named NSAA player-of-the-week

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Rachael Dillon, a senior on the Dickinson State softball team, was named the North Star Athletic Association player of the week after the Blue Hawks wrapped up their spring games in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Rachael Dillon, a senior on the Dickinson State softball team, was named the North Star Athletic Association player of the week after the Blue Hawks wrapped up their spring games in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday.

The outfielder from Billings, Mont. had a batting average of .452 on the week, hitting four doubles, three home runs, one triple and driving in nine runs. Her success helped the Blue Hawks go 7-1 in Tucson this week, suffering their only loss on the final day. The team went 9-5 during their time in Arizona.

Dordt College (Iowa) defeated Dickinson State 7-2 by scoring five unanswered runs through the third, fourth and fifth innings.

The Blue Hawks (11-10, 1-3 NSAA) concluded the spring stint with a 5-4 win over the College of St. Mary (Neb.).

Going into the ninth, Dickinson State led 4-3, but St. Mary’s tied it in the top of the inning.

Another run in the bottom of the ninth gave the Blue Hawks the win, though.

Junior Sonja Lawrence, who hit a home run, led with three hits, while Dillon and junior Rayleen Ortiz contributed two hits each.
