VALLEY CITY -- Dickinson State's softball team's struggles this year have included errors.
A doubleheader sweep of Valley City State in a Dakota Athletic Conference games Saturday by scores of 8-2 in Game 1 and 11-1 in a five-inning Game 2 showed what can happen when miscues are limited. The Blue Hawks (18-9, 9-3 DAC) committed two errors, both in the first game.
Good pitching also came in handy as Sara Jane Webster picked up both wins, giving up three runs and five hits on the day in 12 innings.
"She pitched well for us," DSU head coach Kristen Fleury said. "One thing is we talked with the pitchers to get them early in the count."
DSU took Game 1 at a slow pace, scoring a run apiece in the first and second before coming up with three runs in the third.

The Blue Hawks started out slow in Game 2 as it held a 3-1 lead after three innings before scoring seven in the fourth.
All totaled, DSU put up 33 hits on the day.
"Everybody one through nine is hitting the ball well," Fleury said. "Hitting the ball is contagious."
DSU finishes out its trip to Valley City State (17-14, 2-8) with a doubleheader today at noon and 2 p.m.
"We started to take it one day at a time," Fleury said. "We're not done."
