DSU splits with Yellow Jackets

SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Dickinson State softball team split its doubleheader against Black Hills State on Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets took the first game 6-5, but the Blue Hawks retaliated with an 8-5 victory.
DSU held a 5-3 lead to start the bottom of the seventh inning, but second baseman Katie Campo hit a walkoff three-run home run to seal the win.
Campo finished the game 2 for 4 with a run and four RBI. Shortstop Ryan Cook and first baseman Rebecca Green contributed two runs each for Black Hills State. Kaitlin Farrar pitched a complete game for the Yellow Jackets, allowed five runs on six hits, walked four and struck out three.
For DSU, Regan Lawrence got the start - pitched five innings with four hits and two runs - but reliever McKenna Kostelecky was credited with the loss. Lindsey Sullivan went a perfect 2 for 2 with a three-run homer and five RBI.
The Blue Hawks kept it consistent in the second game and scored in every inning but the sixth.
Rebecca Lopez and Kailey Olcott had multi-run days as Lopez went 4 for 5 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Olcott was 2 for 2 and drove in three runs. Lawrence was in the circle again and picked up the win after throwing five innings with four hits, one run and struck out two. Tiffany Morgan came in for relief for two innings, allowed three runs and five hits.
For the Yellow Jackets, Campo hit another home run accompanied by Green with one of her own. Campo went 1 for 4 with a run and a RBI, while Green finished 2 for 4 with three RBI and a run.
The Blue Hawks travel to Madison, S.D. for a four-game series against Dakota State. The first of two doubleheaders begins at 1 p.m. Saturday.
