GLENDIVE, Mont. -- The Dickinson State baseball team got its conference season off to a good start on Friday.

The Blue Hawks swept Mayville State 1-0 and 5-2 in what was supposed to be a Dakota Athletic Conference home doubleheader, but had to be played in Montana instead.

DSU starter Jamil Acosta (3-1) pitched seven strong innings, allowing three hits and walking two while striking out seven.

"(He had) just a real solid game," DSU coach Duane Monlux said. "It was his second straight complete game."

Tony Isbell was the only player in the game who recorded multiple hits, both being doubles. His final double came in the sixth inning, plating pinch runner Liam Foran, who stole second to get into scoring position after Efrain Ruiz singled to get on.

In the second game, the error bug plagued the Comets (6-9, 0-2 DAC) as DSU was able to get three unearned runs off six Mayville miscues.

The game was tied at 2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Blue Hawks scored three runs. Relief pitcher Andrew Grafton pitched the final 1Zc inning to get the win. Mayville State's Dan Silva took the loss.

Monlux said the sweep was nice to see considering the Blue Hawks have only been able to practice once in the past five days. DSU (11-8, 2-0 DAC) didn't have an error in the doubleheader.

"We played errorless baseball," Monlux said. "That was a real nice surprise."
