DSU volleyball downs Mayville State

MAYVILLE -- Four Blue Hawks recorded double-digit kills on Friday, helping the Dickinson State volleyball team defeat North Star Athletic Association foe Mayville State in four sets.

MAYVILLE - Four Blue Hawks recorded double-digit kills on Friday, helping the Dickinson State volleyball team defeat North Star Athletic Association foe Mayville State in four sets.

Dickinson State and Mayville State split the first two sets, with the Blue Hawks winning the opener 25-17 and the Comets responding with a win by the same score in the second game.

DSU (6-13, 3-4 NSAA) pulled ahead with a 25-22 win in the third set and fought off the Comets (9-14, 2-5) in the fourth set, which ended at 29-27.

Shelby Gustafson led the Blue Hawks with 13 kills, while Brenna Hansen, Tessa Sian and Ellie Hanser each supplied 10 kills.

Gustafson also added three service aces and five total blocks. Sian had five blocks as well, and Sydney Bentz notched four.

Keera Stookey and Danielle Boyette facilitated the offense with 28 and 20 assists, respectively. Shaylee Singleton collected 29 digs.
